Social Ecological Framework

In 2009, Elinor Ostrum won the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for her work on governing the commons. Through a survey of societies around the world which had a Common Pool Resource (CPR), such as what we have here in Richardson Bay, Professor Ostrum discovered 8 design principles that must be in place in order to provide for long-term sustainability.

If any were missing, a tragedy of the commons would occur.

Our approach is based on these principles.

The following are slides of a presentation made to the RBRA on behalf of the Anchorage Community in April of 2016.
